Thanksgiving is here and you better believe this Georgia girl is going to be doing some good eatin’! One thing us southerners are known for is our good southern home cookin’ and my family is no exception. I was born into a family of fabulous home cooks with delicious (and simple) recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation.

At our Thanksgiving table you’ll find a huge turkey, cornbread dressing and gravy, sweet potato casserole, squash casserole, asparagus casserole, homemade cranberry sauce (not anything like the canned stuff!), and plenty of pecan pie! I can hear my stomach growling already! Around our table you’ll see four generations of my family plus my in-laws. A total of 13 people and enough food to feed an army!

My grandma still cooks the meal, although my mom will go to stay with her and help her prepare it. Grandma doesn’t really allow anyone to help though, just watch her and keep her company! She will let my mom make the sweet potato casserole, it is what she’s famous for, and my father-in-law will make the pecan pies the night before at my house before we drive up to join the rest of my family.

I could eat my weight in it! Although, isn’t that what Thanksgiving is for… to stuff yourself like a turkey?

HOW-TO: Organize Your Purse With holiday shopping gearing up we need to stay organized, Ladies! Lists are a good idea for gift shopping but what about your purse?

Purses….the essences of all accessories - in my opinion ;-) need to stay organized so not to loose or misplace anything in the hustle & bustle of shopping madness.

Some tips to stay organized during Black Friday and Holiday Shopping:

· Have a place for everything in your purse – extra pockets are great!

o Make sure your cell phones stays in its holder, keys have a pocket or keychain clip in your purses.

· Makeup bags are an easy way to keep organized, I have an extra bag in my purse to keep a mirror, pens, hand-sanitizer, and any other miscellaneous items. This way when you are looking for something in your bag, you know where it will be and not scattered in the abyss!

· During shopping trips the one thing you need more than anything else is your wallet. To minimize ciaos…make sure all credit cards you need are in your wallet and visible. When your wallet is organized it eliminates the stress of potentially loosing a credit card or misplacing money.

Avoid this!! Looks of organizing compartments ;-)

· Finally, my last tip for Holiday Shopping – get a receipt organizer!

o Instead of cramming receipts into your wallet or loosely in your purse, purchase a receipt carrier so when something needs to be returned or exchanged you know exactly where you placed that receipt!

I have 1 son, Judah. He is 20 months old
2. What’s one thing you can’t live without (besides your family)?
My kitchen… I love to bake and cook. It is the epicenter of our home. I use it often to entertain, bake with my son, and cook family meals 6 to 7 days a week
3. What’s your favorite beauty item of all time?
Rusk "Wired" - I have a lot of hair, but it is super fine and flat as a board. I can't live without this product! It is a miracle cream!
4. What's your go-to fashion item?
A good pair of jeans and a white fitted t-shirt. Everything goes with it - you can dress it up or down. Pair it with a sweater, boots, and some fabulous jewelry and you're smokin'
5. What's been your favorite trend of all?
I love the boots that are in style now. I also like that more feminine cuts are in style. I'm very girlie!
6. What's one fashion/beauty item you'll never touch? And why?
I steer clear of traditional antiperspirants and deodorants. They are bad news in the chemical department. I DO NOT like to stink, however! LOL. I use a natural deodorant that is handmade by a lady on Etsy - { http://www.etsy.com/shop/soapwallakitchen } and it works fabulous - even in Georgia's summer heat!
7. TV show you must tune into each week?
Oooo... there are a couple - but we must DVR them. With a little one, we never know when we're going to be able to sit down to watch a show. We love Parenthood, Burn Notice, & Covert Affairs.

Toy Story Magic

As a mother of four boys ages two to six, seldom if ever do I find that one toy that they all can enjoy. The Toy Story Rocket Table Setfrom Jakks Pacific is one of those rare exceptions. It’s a table and two chair set, decorated with the Toy Story characters that all my boys love that can be broken down and changed into a rocket ship that’s over for feet tall.

Henry, my two year old, is a little young to get all the pieces together, but I can leave him alone, not worried about small pieces that some of his older brothers’ toys contain. He loves stacking the pieces and we can often hear the crash when he knocks the rocket ship down.

William, my six year old, loves to lend a hand with the pieces that Henry can’t quite assemble. As a mother, it warms my heart to see my babies working together rather than fighting over a toy.

With four chairs, there’s room at the table for everyone! They love to sit and eat at the Toy Story table and actually sit quietly at their special table. $69.95 is a small price to pay for that!

20 Earrings Under $50

“After having tried for 6 years to become a mom with my previous partner, our relationship broke down when I found out he was having an affair with a woman many years my junior. I thought that was it for my mommy dreams--I was 38 years old and newly separated. Unexpectedly, I found a kindred spirit in an old friend from graduate school, who had just been asked for a divorce by his wife of 12 years. Sharing feelings, hopes and dreams, we fell in love and I am happily now a mom of 2 fabulous stepchildren, ages 6 and 9, and a beautiful baby boy born on July 18, 2010! I am all happiness. My life is complete!”

1. How many children do you have?

· I have 2 step kids: Sean (6 yrs old) and Lilly (9 yrs old). On July 18th I gave birth to my first baby, a boy who we named Mateo (you can see him cheekily sticking out his tongue as he poses with me in the photo)

2. What's one thing you can't live without (besides your family)?

· My camera. I always document our everyday existence, not just major events in our lives. Sometimes the best memories occur at the most unexpected times. It is amazing to be able to capture them on film and re-live them in the future.

3. What's your favorite beauty item of all time?

· Lip-gloss. I cant live without it. Even on days when I wear no make-up, I must put on some lip-gloss. I have been fond of Kiehl’s lip-gloss for at least a decade! It is the only personal item I keep in my diaper bag!

4. What's your go-to fashion item?

· Ankle high-heeled boots. I love them and have at least 3 favorite pairs that I wear all the time.

5. What's been your favorite trend of all?

· I love 80’s fashion. I was an adolescent in the 1980’s and really enjoyed the imaginativeness and authenticity that characterized the fashion of the times. So I must say that I still enjoy wearing skinny jeans with leg warmers and have a closet full of flared mini skirts reminiscent of the 80’s rah rah skirts.

6. What's one fashion/beauty item you'll never touch? And why?

· I am horrified by tanning beds and/or fake tans. Even when I lived in London, England, I would rather be as pallid as an english raised than sport that orange, carcinogenic look.

7. TV shows you must tune into each week?

· I love TV series, but I particularly love watching all of the episodes in a series straight, once it is out on DVD. Right now I am really hooked on Dexter, Season 4.

8. Website you absolutely much check out daily?

· I used to check Facebook on a daily basis, although since the birth of Mateo my internet habits have radically changed! I now have an online baby book for Mateo at http://lilgrams.com/ where I am uploading photos, videos and stories to share with family and loved ones. I access it every day, adding new stuff and looking through Mateo’s old (!) photos and videos from when he was a newborn.

Comfort Food - Cake Cookies

With the weather getting cold, there's nothing like a little yummy-comfort-food. You gotta' try Cake Cookies. My mother-in-law taught me this recipe! They are our favorite cookie during the holidays! They are really easy and very kid-friendly to make.

INGREDIENTS:

1 Box of Cake Mix (any flavor)

1/3 cup of oil

2 eggs

1 large bag of M&Ms (or any topping you prefer - chocolate chips, sprinkles)

MIX together all ingredients in a mixer. STIR in M&Ms. BAKE on (ungreased) cookie sheet at 350 degrees between 10-12 minutes or until they are golden.

RED MAKEUP - WINTER TREND

I've never been a red lipstick wearer... actually, the only time I think I've ever worn red lipstick was when I was one of the Robert Palmer Girls for Halloween one year. You remember those girls, right?

I swear they made red lipstick POPULAR.

But this season, it all seems to be about RED MAKEUP.

Red lipstick.

Red eye makeup.

Red blush.

I'm not 100% sold on this red makeup beauty trend this fall/winter... but it definitely adds some beautiful color to your makeup arsenal. You won't see me with red makeup on my eyes, I don't think that's for me... but the great thing about beauty trends is that they don't have to work for everyone.

Kohl's is Totally Thinking of Moms...

On Sunday afternoon I took Henry on a much dreaded trip (for him)... shopping with Mommy for clothes. I wanted to grab a few new things because I have a lot of events and trips coming up, so I brought along my little man to "help me."

I have had my eye on a couple of things from the LC Lauren Conrad line at Kohl's. She's got some great boho-type items and I love the colors (pinks, greens, purples and blues) that she has in her Fall Collection. (And I will admit, I was a huge Laguna Beach fan!) But she had 2 items in her Collection that I absolutely LOVED...

The problem was... they didn't have my SIZE at the store (in anything). UGH...

I loved the items enough to ask an employee if she could possibly call one of the other Kohl's store's in Rhode Island to see if they happened to have my size in those items (I didn't want to order online and then have to pay all the shipping). She said to me, "Did you already try the Kiosk?"

KIOSK? NO... I hadn't. And then she showed me the "way..."

Kohl's has a KIOSK in every store now where you can scan the item you like, see if the have the size/style/color you want and then you can order it and have it shipped to your house - FREE SHIPPING. I was able to get both the items I wanted, in the size I needed, in the color I preferred and have them sent right to my house... plus, I was able to still get all the same discounts as in-store and was able to add in the promotional code I had on me, too! It was AWESOME!

I had know idea Kohl's had this service in their stores. SO... if you're in a Kohl's and don't see what you want, do not fear... you can still get it!

**It also saved me a ton of time being with Henry. I didn't have to wait while the girl called every store to see if they had what I needed, I was able to do it quickly on my own!**

How to wear a Sweater Cardigan Vest

I've professed my love for cardigan sweater wraps time and time again on my blog. I just love them. I love pairing my wrap(s) with jeans, dresses and even sweats! They are so comfy and cozy.

Well, this season I'm beginning to be all about the Sweater Vest... a chunky knit sweater vest. This vest has become one of my new staples.

Halloween is one of those holidays that my sons count down for, beginning in the summer. With William and Alexander having birthdays in September (and us always having a Halloween themed party), they start talking costumes in July (no joke). This year Alexander, Benjamin and Henry all wanted to be something TOY STORY. It's funny, my sons are at the age where Toy Story 3 is really the first time we've ever been into Toy Story. My guys were too young (and not born) with the other Toy Story movies. So the excitement and wonder and awe has begun now for the McClelland boys...

Haircut time!

My sons were beginning to get that "shaggy" look. So much so, that when we were in the market this past weekend, a woman said to me, "Oh... look at their hair. It's so shaggy." Yup, that was the red flag I needed to get my sons to the nearest Snip-its! My sons aren't lovers of getting their haircut. Usually my husband or sister-in-law do the deed... but I knew it was time for a professional job!

I promised the boys a good time... and thankfully, Snip-its delivered!

Tell me a little about yourself...
I am a 30 year old stay-at-home mother of two {and wife} who has always had a love affair with the online world. I am a home-educator and we live in Liberty, Indiana..... a very small town.

1. When did you start blogging?

I've been "blogging" and "logging" my life ever since my parents gave me my first computer in 1996. I was immediately drawn to the connections I could make through early social networks and instant messaging such as mIRC and ICQ.

I don't believe the term "blog" was even around when I first began creating websites {through outlets such as angelfire} and logging my thoughts and activities. I'm sure no one from my high school is at all surprised I'm still sitting in front of a computer.

As I entered new stages of life: college, marriage, parenthood... my websites/blogs changed a long with the new era...

Now being a mother, I can't imagine I'll ever be in any other niche besides mommy blogging.

2. What made you start blogging?

I didn't realize I was "blogging" when I began my infatuation with the computer and the online world. I had something to say and what better platform to say it than to the entire world through a website. I actually have so much to say that i have a notebook dedicated to the posts I have not yet had time to write!

3. Why was it important for you to create Bloggy Moms?

Bloggy Moms came about in an effort to support and provide resources for mommy bloggers {especially those new to the world of blogging or looking to branch out}.

I want to provide information and help to those who maybe don't know how to connect with other moms online or don't understand what terms such as "meme" mean.

I get a little sad when I find a fantastic mom blog and realize it hasn't been updated in months or even years. Most of all I want to reach out to mommy bloggers and to provide community, help moms connect and not see each other as rivals in the blog world.

4. What do you want other blogging moms to walk away with from your site?

I want them to find the resources they were looking to find as well as information they didn't even know existed. I want them to find community and make connections with other mommy bloggers.

5. What's been the best thing you've discovered about blogging?

"I'm not alone" is the best thing I have found about blogging. I had stepped away from it for nearly a year when my daughter was first born... I was so busy, I thought it best to walk away. One of the best things I have done for myself and my family has been to return to blogging. It is a stress release, it's a connection to other moms who are going through or have gone through what I'm experiencing. Writing in my journal is nice, but it doesn't compare to logging my life online and meeting others moms who are there and know what I'm talking about.

Plaid is a very big trend right now, especially Boyfriend Plaid Blouses. They're very chic and very fashionable to wear. I saw a bunch this weekend while at the mall - walk into American Eagle, Target, Old Navy, GAP, Macy's... you'll find some.

But what to wear with them? Can you actually wear one to work? Can you make one look oh-so-chic? My thought... yes, you can.

Jeans... high tall boots. Keep the blouse open with a camisole underneath it. Very chic to head out in! This works for Girl's Night Out... date night...

Leggings with a cozy sweater. Add some tall black boots, and you've got a sexy outfit!

Heading to work? Add a pencil skirt and belt with some boots. Very elegant... love this look!

We're very passionate about spreading the Breast Cancer Awareness message, it's something that is very near and dear to our hearts. As you may have seen, my mom, Jane and I all pledged our commitment to spreading Breast Cancer Awareness with Estee Lauder in their 2010 Breast Cancer Awareness Ad Campaign -

We were honored and inspired and humbled to be a apart of this campaign. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but we knew the power and the message that Estee Lauder wanted to achieve... and that's why we agreed to do this. Our cousin (a mom of 3) passed away from Breast Cancer in 2004 after a 7 year battle, she was our true inspiration for this photo. Being a mom of 4 myself now, it really hits home to me that awareness for this cancer is key.

So it got me thinking... what can I do to spread the word even more? And how can I reflect this through my 365 Days of Fashion Advice for Moms?

31 Days of Pink. Tomorrow (October 1st) marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I am pledging to wear something PINK every single day throughout October. I don't have a ton of PINK clothing in my closet, so this will be the challenge and fun in it. I will be adding some touches of pink to remind myself about the importance and power and beauty in the color and what it stands for, especially, throughout the month of October.

Head Cold? Chicken Soup Recipe

There's one thing I try to prevent from raging through my home... COLDS! I always tell the boys to wash their hands and don't share straws/utensils and or anything at school. Having little kids, it's difficult to explain the "whys!" so much.

Well... COLDS have hit our home, and it's TOUGH! I've got it. 3 of my sons have it. And my husband has it!

Last night my husband made a delicious Chicken Soup for us all... believe it or not, it was like a miracle. It made my throat feel better and my headache go away a bit.

With school in session... colds are bound to hit our homes... if this happens, I wanted to pass along a delicious recipe!

CHICKEN SOUP

Ingredients

1 (3 pound) whole chicken
4 carrots, halved
4 stalks celery, halved
1 large onion, halved
water to cover
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules (optional)

Directions

Put the chicken, carrots, celery and onion in a large soup pot and cover with cold water. Heat and simmer, uncovered, until the chicken meat falls off of the bones (skim off foam every so often).
Take everything out of the pot. Strain the broth. Pick the meat off of the bones and chop the carrots, celery and onion. Season the broth with salt, pepper and chicken bouillon to taste, if desired. Return the chicken, carrots, celery and onion to the pot, stir together, and serve.

As I was driving home last night from NYC, I was chatting with a friend from college and telling her about the conference and what I spoke about. She's not a blogger, but has often wanted to get into it. She's heard me go on and on and on about blogging for about 3 years now... but last night was the first time she ever point-blank-asked-me: But why do you love it?

I'm about to "out" myself as fashion-mom-crazy... hold on.

In October of 2000 (I was married in 2001), I went to a DKNY Kids Sample Sale and went C-R-A-Z-Y buying things for my "kids." Yes... it's true - my first born was born on September 25, 2004.

I guess it's a good thing Matt was really in love with me because some guys would have run in the opposite direction when they saw me come home with piles of clothing for kids we didn't have yet.

*Disclaimer here: The items were cashmere blankets, cashmere sweaters, cashmere booties and hats and cashmere sweats... along with the cutest dresses and skirts you've ever seen. You can't pass up that kind of stuff when it's about $15-25.

The kicker of all kickers... some of the clothing was a size 6. As in KIDS size 6.

So... you can imagine my delight tonight when I finally saw our son (after 11 years of holding on to them) wear them.

BCBG Max Azria

I know that Max and Lubov Azria of BCBG Max Azria probably didn't have the "mom-wearability" thought in their minds as they created their Spring 2011 collection, but... I have to admit, they did an incredible job making their collection wearable by moms (whether they truly meant to or not).

I'm going to disclose the fact that I have already loved BCBG. One of my very fashion-forward friend's in college introduced me to BCBG back in 1998 (thank you, Jessica!) and I fell in love with their clothes immediately. Whenever I put something BCBG on, it just fits well. Actually... only a couple of weeks ago when I was in L.A. for the Emmy's, I went on a BCBG shopping spree, buying 4 dresses (I even went back to get more!) at a Loehmann's out there.

Getting back to Spring 2011... BCBG was simple, classic and minimal. There wasn't anything jaw-dropping about it, but that's why I loved it even more. The clothing was wearable... there weren't bells and whistles and boas, everything was graceful and pleasantly sophisticated.

I have been a fan of Petit Bateau for years... I will never forget the ladies in my Donna Karan office giving me beautiful striped pajamas for my baby shower with William. William's first day of school was today... the BIG Kindergarten! Drop-off was pretty straight-forward. William didn't cry. Shockingly, I didn't cry either. It was a big moment for him, but he was ready for it. VERY ready for it... so I think that made it much easier for me. We took a ba-zillion photos. I took about 20 minutes worth of video. And my William took it all in stride... I think he's finally adapted to this "blogging" thing. ;)

After picking him up from school... and hearing about his first day, I thought of 10 things that I hope William realizes about kindergarten!

1. Someday he'll be wishing 85% of his class consisted of GIRLS! :)

2. There is definitely recess next year.

3. He is the only McClelland boy in school right now... enjoy the freedom while it lasts!

4. The pencil sharpener will work soon enough... the teacher promised.

5. I won't ask to hold your hand to the classroom every single morning...

6. Glad you're less worried about taking the school bus than I am about you taking it!

7. Aren't you glad we packed a big snack?

8. I'm glad you knew one person in your class...

9. Sooner or later you will run into Ryan, Carly and Aidan.

10. Tomorrow I'll pick you up with your 3 brothers... and they'll see what's in store for them throughout the next 3 years. :)

First Day of School

Today William starts Kindergarten. Quite honesty, I can't believe it. My oldest son is starting school. Real. Big. Boy. School.

He doesn't understand the rite of passage at hand today. Right now he's just running around the house chasing Henry... not a nerve in his body about today. He's ready for it. He's been ready all summer. He's excited and has already asked me about 10 times this morning what time school starts. He has been in morning preschool for 3 years, so afternoon kindergarten will be a little different for him.

But this morning, when I woke up... I was thinking. This is where it all begins. These are the kids he will be in school with now... some of them, until senior year of high school! This is where they will meet... this is where friendships will be made that may even had the possibility of lasting a lifetime. Crazy to think that. I still remember my first day of school. Miss Tragar was my teacher. She had curly hair, a beautiful smile and long fingernails. I really remember her fingernails, they were always polished beautifully. I met Faye Lerish and Kari Molvar that year... 2 girls that I was friends with all through high school... and with the emergence of Facebook, I still can keep in touch with now! This is what William has before him today.

I don't know how the day will unfold (yet). I don't know if he'll suddenly get nervous as Matt and I start to leave the classroom. I don't know if I will cry (or if Matt will). Beauty Advice: Getting Rid of Hang Nails

If you're anything like me, manicures aren't something that happen everyday. I have tried (once) to take 2 of the boys with me while I get my nails done. Let's just put it this way, I will never do that again. Even though it actually only took about 30 minutes to get my nails done... it felt like 4 hours for the boys.

Since I need to make solo trips, I usually try to go at least once a month to get my nails done. It doesn't always happen... but when it does - ahh... perfection! For one week, perfect nails. The other 3 weeks, it's all me.

The one thing that drives me crazy about nail/hand maintenance are hang nails. Oh, man... I hate them. About 6 weeks ago a friend of mine (thank you, Jill!) recommended I try Melt Away Cuticle Eliminator.

I had been complaining of hang nails long enough, so I figured - what do I have to lose? The only drawback was that the bottle was $20... so, I was hoping (really hoping) it would work.

Well, let me just say. The stuff is incredible! All you have to do is apply a coat to dry nails and you're done! Melt Away breaks down and softens all of the dead skin cells for gentle cuticle removal... which means there's no need at all to rip (cringe!). A huge bonus for me - no formaldehyde, no toluene, no DBP and not animal tested.

Today we got to head to Half Moon Cay! This island is leased by Carnival Cruise Line for their guests. I have to say... as much as Grand Turk was gorgeous... Half Moon Cay was everything and anything I have ever thought the Caribbean to be. It was - by far - the most magnificent place to be! What I loved about it so much was that it was extremely family-friendly... even with a mini-waterpark for kids. My sons thought they just about hit the jackpot! We spent 4 hours on the beach enjoying the sun, playing in the water, snorkling and relaxing!

Hi all!

I'm doing something right now that I've never done before in my life - CRUISING! Carnival Cruise invited me and my family to come aboard and cruise for 7 days throughout the Eastern Caribbean. I'm working as a blog ambassador for them! We've never been away on a vacation with the 6 of us without grandparents!! So this is a first for us, too!

We're having a blast!!

Brushing Teeth in My Home

There are many things my sons love to do... brushing their teeth is one of them. They brush and brush and brush and brush.

They are too cute when they get all excited about it! It's funny how (as a mom), I put just as much thought in their toothbrushes (how cool they are, etc) as I do their clothes. When I head to the store I just grab a toothbrush for myself. I don't go for a certain color... I go for a brand and then grab.

For my sons... it's different. We look for colors they want, characters they prefer and the "coolness" factor!

Vera and I weren't sure what we were going to wear to Getting Gorgeous until Friday morning at 9AM! Here we were, planning Getting Gorgeous for 7 months, and the morning of, we were still trying to decide what we were going to have on for the day. Reusing Maternity Clothing!

I still have maternity clothes hanging in my closet. And it's not because I'm pregnant. I just love them. I have some items that are absolutely fabulous to wear (and that you can get away with wearing) post-pregnancy. And yes, even 2 years post-pregnancy. Instead of sporting a big, beautiful pregnant belly with certain maternity items, I sport a belt, blazer and/or scarf. There are some true gems that I just didn't want to part with because they really do work post-pregnancy. Nobody would every guess that the label reads something along the lines of Motherhood Maternity, Liz Lange, Belly Dance Maternity or 2Chix.

It was beyond refreshing to watch a recent episode of Bethenny Getting Married? and see Bethenny (3 weeks post-baby) sporting an adorable white cotton dress with a thick belt that she deemed "a maternity" top.

Now granted... I never, ever looked like that 3 weeks post having any of my sons, but she's absolutely rocking the maternity top as a dress. I also think that maternity blouses, wraps, cardigans and tunics are wonderful items to keep around as layers. Layering is going to be such a huge trend again this fall and winter, so keep some of these items out and about.

Just to cover the grays...

My mother went prematurely gray in her 30's. I started to notice the little gray strands about 2 years ago. Having naturally dark hair, I didn't want to go darker because I knew the grays would be blaring signs! So my hair stylist recommended going lighter... which I'm doing.

How many of you look like this once a month? Or at least once every 2 months?

I'm 32 years old... which means, I was the prime age when Madonna was the Material Girl! I cannot believe I'm actually going to post this photo here... but, I can't help myself - given the topic!

Yup... that's me in the 1990's (notice the Madonna poster behind me). I have absolutely always loved Madonna. When I was a pre-teen, I dressed up as Madonna for Halloween. Leggings with lace ruffle on the bottom. Jean jacket with black tank underneath. And who could forget the mole. When I was in my teens (see photo above), I used to pretend I was as cool as Madonna. There was just always something about Madonna. There's a mystique around her that is very powerful... still is. It's a confidence. It's a state of mind. She's Madonna. The Material Girl. Her "Material Girl" video is still one of my favorites. Even as I'm sitting here typing this... I'm drifting off into the lyrics of the song.

Berry Ball - Need to Try One!

There's one thing I always wash by hand - my bras.

I've seen way too many of my bras come "undone" in the wash and I'm not going back there - ever.

You know what I'm talking about, right? You pop your bras into the wash to be cleaned, and when they emerge - they're twisted, tangled and completely out of shape. And... if you're anything like me and need a little "something-something" in the padded-bra department, you know how damaged the padding can sometimes get. It can just be a mess. So I started hand-washing everything which isn't the quickest and/or easiest to do. With work and the boys and sports and just the craziness of life with 4 little boys... I need laundry to do quick and easy for me - for every garment.

Which brings me to my bra-saving-grace - the Berry Ball.

You place your bra inside the Berry Ball for washing. What makes the washing of your bra so thorough, is that there's a scrubbing ball that you additionally insert into the Berry Ball with your bra. The holes in the Berry Ball allow the water and detergent to get on in and do its job. Toss the Berry Ball (with bra inside) into your wash - and you're literally good-to-go! It's super easy and you absolutely know you're bra is getting squeaky clean without getting damaged at the same time.

When the load is done, take your bra out of the Berry Ball and hang dry.

I have always loved a little glow on my cheeks in the summer. But... as I've gotten older, I've become more aware and much more scared of the sun's rays. I need to be smart, not only with my sons and husband... but with myself, too. I've been scouring for some great "tanning" alternatives this summer. I've done the spray... quite frankly, I'm not happy with the streaks I got. It looked good for a day - and then... NOT SO GOOD. My legs looked like they were peeling and I was orange.

Activities for Rainy Days

I also serve as a mom ambassador for Land O'Frost... they have an amazing section on their website for moms called - Land O'Moms. Each month I contribute an article for them. I don't know how it's been where you are... but it's been raining here in Rhode Island the last couple of days - and my sons don't know what to do with themselves because we've been so used to the HOT SUN! I compiled a list of 10 things to do on rainy days that we've been doing. I wanted to share my list today on Totsy!!

ENJOY!!

1. Cookie Cutter Sandwiches. This is one of the boys favorite. We make sandwiches (they love PBJ) and then we cut them with cookie cutters to make some cool shapes. They love the dinosaur ones!

2. Finger Painting. I lay out sheets of paper all along the dining room table. I put “old” tees on the boys and just let them go to town with the finger paint! I usually will see if they can make certain letters, shapes and numbers. It keeps them smiling and laughing.

3. Sock Puppets. The boys love it when I go through their dad’s sock drawer and weed out the old socks. We take them downstairs and turn them into puppets. We use paint and pom-poms and try and create the silliest creatures.

4. Movie Day. The boys would have movie day every single day if they could… but, it’s the summer – and if we don’t have to be inside, we won’t be! I turn the lights off… close the shutters and curtains… and actually pretend we’re in the theatre. I make popcorn and we have an actual movie day.

5. Restaurant. This was one of my favorite activities as a child. I take out paper plates, paper cups, plastic silverware and napkins. We make menus and actually play “restaurant.” The boys get a kick out of it. We call it “4 Brothers!”

6. LEGOS. If there’s one thing I’ve realized about having sons is that they love to build! We have bins and bins and bins of LEGOS. I usually only let them play with one bin at a time. But… on rainy days, I take them all out and we create massive castles and buildings.

7. Alphabet Cupcake Making. My sons love to bake, I really think they’ve gotten this from me. When I was a little girl my mom and Nana would bake with me all the time. My sons love to make “mini” cakes (otherwise known as cupcakes). We actually make 26 cupcakes and write one letter of the alphabet on each cake. We call it our Alphabet Cakes.

8. Scavenger Hunts. The boys love to do this outside… but it can be just as fun inside, too. I go throughout the house and hide 10-15 items. I give them easier type clues (so Henry can play) and they dash around the house, working together and finding all the items “mom” has requested.

9. Family Tree. The boys love to ask “who is your dad’s dad?” and “what is grandma’s mom’s name?” Just family curiosity. We made a family tree the other night, using their hands as leaves. We dipped them in paint and had them press down their hands on a piece of paper. We started to label each leaf a member of the family. We’ve been building onto it. I know the boys don’t grasp it 100%, but it’s interesting to teach them that I’m from 4 children… their dad is from 3… etc.

10. Obstacle Courses. Oh, man. This one is the ONE they LOVE! I make obstacle courses with our furniture, with the toys and with cushions and pillows. They then have a blast trying to “get through” everything. They LOVE this!

Hair Tips from Hair Stylist Sarah Potempa

I love to wear my hair down... but with 4 sons, it's not always the most practical! Especially when it's hug and cuddle time! With my hair being on the long side, ponytails and buns are usually the easiest thing in the world for me. If you caught me at any given time in my life at home (like right now!) you'd see me with a huge bun on top of my head! My sons have always gotten a kick out of this "look."

Jenn continues her European fashion summer series this week! I love this post because it's about men's fashion. As a mom of 4 boys... and married to a man who loves fashion, I was very intrigued by this post!

Men's Fashion at PITTI...

Blazers are definitely going to be a huge trend for guys this year, as well as ankle boots! Both are easy to wear with just about anything….jeans, khakis, or chinos. (Especially white pants!) ;-)
*Make sure the material of the blazer does not clash with your pants…casual is best for this look!

LOVING white pants on men! It’s definitely a hard look to pull off but if done right, go for it! These men at Pitti sure knew what they were doing! White chinos or jeans with a colored button down or polo, and matching moccasins or you can just stick with your classic black or brown shoes.
*Only wear light tan shoes with white pants (3rd picture) if you have a tan belt or shirt that matches! For warmth (and/or fashion) you can always throw a blazer into the mix as well. ;-)

Dark blue jeans (with belt if tucked-in), white button down (tucked-in or out) and moccasins to match belt or add color.

Fashion/Beauty MUST-HAVES for the Beach

I've been to the beach and/or pool almost every single day this summer. With the heat wave the way it is, it's essential to stay cool and refreshed with a nice pool and beach. My sons make fun of me for packing the largest tote at the pool... OK, I have 2 of them that I bring. But... I have some summer fashion/beauty items that I need to make sure are packed.

The Importance of BPA-Free Products

Before I had children, I never really was concerned about BPA or anything like that. I even remember being pregnant with my oldest son and having a close friend of mine ask if I would be using glass bottles instead of plastic. My initial thought was - "Glass aren't safe... would if I drop it!?" And - well... then you become a mom and start reading everything because the safety of your child is the most important thing in the world.

Truthfully, I don't know what to think about these jeans...they're called Legging Jeans.

That's right - jeans as tight as leggings.

Pros:

Super soft.

If you have the legs for these - you'll look smashing!

Cons:

They're TIGHT. Very tight.

If you're under 6 feet, they may look silly. ;)

WOMEN’S FASHION AT PITTI:

HUGE trends walking the streets of Florence…I must say people were dressed sensationally at Pitti. Most were dressed casual but you could tell they put a lot of thought and effort into their selections.

Best of all- their ensembles are easy to recreate here in the States!

Tan boots in the summer with a dress and tan belt (Great Fall look, too!).

Baggy dress with a hat and a super cute pair of flats (and obviously an oversized bag)!

Button down, shorts (not too short), moccasins (or boat shoes), a scarf and an oversized bag.

Tips for Color-Treated Hair

I'm getting my hair highlighted today... oh, my... thank the heavens! My hair in the summer grows so fast. And by looking at my root right now, you actually may mistake my hair for having a black hairband in it. No joke...

When I make that sacred hair appointment, I literally starting counting down the days. Please tell me I'm not alone! Truthfully, I naturally have dark hair. I'm naturally a perfect mix between a dirty-blonde and a brunette. As I've gotten older, I've even noticed some grays popping in there (ugh....). Getting my hair highlighted really does "change" my look. I prefer myself with lighter hair - it hides my grays and makes me feel like I look better. I'm sure every woman has that I-look-so-much-better-with-this "color" for her hair. I've gone dark before and I just don't like it on me... it's not a "pretty" dark.

But... coloring. That beautiful little hair activity! It's fun to have done... but it's not always easy to maintain color-treated hair. You really need to make sure you're taking care of the color. Whether you're doing it yourself or paying for someone to do it for you - there are certain things you can do to enhance and make sure the color stays for as long as possible.

1. Don't just use any shampoo and/or conditioner on your color-treated hair. USE color-treated Shampoo and Conditioner. This one may be obvious, but it's really important to make sure you're doing this. There are shampoos and conditioners at every price point that offer this benefit in their mixtures. Make sure you're buying them and using them! Also, make sure all hair care products you're using have the same benefit, too.

2. Don't wash your hair every single day! I know this may be tough for some people, but washing it every single day isn't good for the color. Try every other day. Believe me, when I first got this advice I thought to myself, "There's NO way!" But then I started to try it... and, I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I wash my hair every 3-4 days now.

3. Don't blow dry your hair, flat iron your hair and/or curl your color-treated hair on the highest heat! Stay on cooler settings. If you use the hottest settings you'll get some heat damage on your hair - you're talking split ends and frizz!

Nautical Trend for MOMS

I recently wrote about the Nautical look for kids, but it doesn't just stop with them!

Oh, NO!!

Living in Rhode Island - the "Ocean State" - I've always been near the water. Growing up, I loved about 1/4 of a mile from a beach. In college my parents moved to another town, and still... we loved about 1/4 (maybe less!) from a beach. And now, as an adult and mom of my own, we lived about 3 miles from the water. Personally, I love it! Ask any Rhode Islander, the farthest one could probably actually even live from the water can't be more than 15 miles or so.

This all being said... I've been noticing the nautical trend really emerging this summer. It's funny, the "nautical" trend is always "in-style" in Rhode Island. If you drive down to Newport or Narragansett for the afternoon - you'll see this trend year-round. You just usually don't see it among the tourists visiting, but this summer - it's everywhere.

I love this trend because it's REALLY EASY to do. I know as moms, especially in the summertime with the kids out of school, the last thing we really have time to focus on is fashion trends and styles (bless my father for buying me some fashion magazines for the beach yesterday - 4 boys at the beach, I didn't get a chance to eat lunch, never mind read!), so I've really been trying to share some doable and practical fashion trends/styles lately on MomGenerations.com. Jenn's 4-week European trip has been so inspiring to read about! She got such a great sense of the people, the culture and the fashion. I even took a few pictures and walked into every one I saw.

Hat Shopping in Paris

Jenn is continuing her European "fashion" summer vacation blog series today with an amazing post about hat shopping in Paris. Ahh... if you're a lover of hats (I am!) this post will make you want to hop on a plane to Paris - STAT!

During my time spent in Paris, a good friend of mine, Allie kept talking about an article she saw in Vogue awhile back. The article featured a quaint hat boutique in Paris that specializes in customized, hand-made hats for men and women, La Cerise sur le Chapeau.
La Cerise sur le Chapeau in English means cherry on the hat (their logo also represents this saying!) Everything is customized by you (the customer) from the material and colors down to the ribbons on the hat. They fit it precisely to your head making it your very own.

One afternoon we spent the day walking around the Saint Germain area. It did not take us long to find the little shop tucked away on a side alley, Allie was also well prepared with mapped out directions! Inside the workshop, which is located in the 6th arrondissement close to Saint Germain des Prés, we were greeted by three young women. Two only spoke French but were very welcoming to us Americans as they sat at their sewing machines attaching ribbons to already preordered hats. The third lady graciously walked Allie through the whole process of specializing her own hat. They had a wide spectrum of colors to choose from. Allie was able to choose the colors of her felt and straw hats, while also color-coordinating the ribbons to both! (She purchased 2 hats – one for summer use and the other for winter!) They are so cute! If only hats looked good on me…but Allie pulls it off beautifully! (My little fashionista!) Once Allie made her final decisions, it only took the women 20 minutes to finalize all the details and finish her hats. We grabbed lunch quickly and we were back just in time. The service was wonderful and the ambiance of the store followed right in line.

Menswear for Women

I thought I'd do a fun post today on menswear that us ladies can get a little use out of! Now - considering the man in my life is 6'2" and I'm 5' - I have to be a little creative when dispensing this kind of fashion advice.

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is raid your man's closet...

So what are some things to "borrow?"

Here are my top 3 recommendations:

1. T-shirts. Talk about the perfect sleepwear. You have built in nightgowns/sleep-shirts without having to go out and buy any. I was at Target last week, and there were sleep-shirts on sale for $9, honestly... it was like wearing one of my husband's tees. It was just as long. It was just as big and comfy. And it was just as soft. My husband has an affinity for Hanes white tees... his tees (sorry, sweetie!) are now moonlighting as my tees to sleep in.

2. Button-downs... there are 2 things you can use his button-downs - beach cover-ups and maternity wear. Last summer I did this and it was perfect, I grabbed some of Matt's light blue button-downs, not his super dressy ones... but a couple that he had in there for more causal occasions, and used them as beach cover-ups on the beach. They were awesome! Not to mention... they can save you some money. Maternity wise, borrowing your man's shirt is a great option. Even though it won't fit to your exact form, it's still comfy to toss on, un-buttoned and wear out and about. Hey... it's in the closet, so why not use it - right?

3. Undies... I'm sure you're thinking - WHAT!? But wait, think Carrie Bradshaw.

She did something in one episode that was classic. She wore men's briefs to bed. It was absolutely Sex and the City fashion-fabulousness... but I thought it was very clever of Patricia Field to do that. This one may be a little more a stab in the dark, but you it's a fun one! ;)

Getting Gorgeous Events

How many Flower Shows... Home Shows... Boat Shows... Bridal Shows... Baby Expos and Business Expos have you been to or heard of? Living in the smallest state - Rhode Island - there is always something going on in Providence. I can imagine it's the same in most cities across the country.

BUT... what about fashion and beauty for moms? And I'm not just talking a quick "Girl's Night Out"... I'm talking - meet the brands, try products, learn about particular products and leave with some pretty cool fashion/beauty info (and SWAG!).

Now... that's what I'm talking about.

Armed with one of my best friend's, Vera Sweeney - we're bringing fashion and beauty events to MOMS through Getting Gorgeous Events.

Getting Gorgeous Events are about all fashion, beauty and style for the everyday Mom. We want to give moms an opportunity to relax, be pampered and (well...) get gorgeous. We all know Europe’s trends are more advanced than here in the U.S. We’d like to say that we’re adventurous but in most cases Europeans did it first (that’s how we know it’ll stick!) I must say I was hesitant to believe this at first too but if fashion school had taught me anything (which it had) going to Europe sure made me a believer! Having just returned from my extravagant trip to London, Paris and Florence I saw hundreds of people walking the streets in outfits I thought were meant for going out in or runway shows but no, this is how they dressed every day! To make it easier for us to wear in the States I will give you the basics…but please be adventurous!

One of my girlfriend's lives and breathes for Lands' End Slim and Husky Styles for her sons. Her sons are on the slim side and it's incredibly difficult for her to find clothing that fit them well. I remember when I first heard of patemm diaper changing pads. It was in the ladies room on the 2nd floor of Nordstrom at the Providence Place Mall. I was pregnant with Benjamin. As I laid out my square diaper changing pad, Alexander kept rolling to the side and kept touching his little bum-bum on the floor. It was grossing me out.
